Trip Overview:

Tihar Festival Tour benefits you with the opportunity to discover the hidden facts of the festival and celebrate it. Tihar is also known as Deepawali in Madesh community and Swanti in Newar communities that last for 5 days period. Tihar is considered as the second biggest festival of Nepal after Dashain. The first day is celebrated as Kaag Tihar where crows are worshipped by offering sweets and dishes. Second day known as Kukur Tihar is celebrated by worshiping dogs and offering sweets, dish and garlands, acknowledging the cherished relation between human and dog. In the morning of third day Gai Tihar is celebrated by worshiping the cow and Goddess Laxmi is worshiped at the evening as Laxmi Puja. On third day the program of deusi and bhailo begins. Bhailo and Deusi are the musical program where the participants sings and dances on the houses of individual in returns receives prize such as money, sweets and dishes. Bhailo are played by girls on third day whereas Deusi are played by boys on fourth day.  The fourth day of Tihar is celebrated as Govardhan Puja by worshiping oxen (goru puja) and Govardhan Mountain. In night the Newars celebrates Mha Puja by worshiping themselves. On the same day the boys plays Deusi during the night. The last day is the most auspicious day of Tihar known as Bhai Tika where the pure relation of brothers and sisters is cherished. The Bhai Tika is celebrated by all the Nepalese people throughout the world where brothers and sisters offer tika to each other and exchange their gifts. 
Tihar is considered to be of great importance as it shows reverence to not just the humans and the gods, but also to the animals like crows, cows, and dogs that maintain an intimate relationship with humans. The whole country is enlightened with candle, lamps, diyos and lights on this auspicious occasion.

Day to Day Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu
You will meet one of our representative when your flight lands and will drive towards the hotel.  Your today’s program will be carried out according to your will, either if you want to relax at hotel or hang out in the street of Kathmandu. You will be given short description about your next day plan by our representative.

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing
Tihar Festival Tour also offers the sightseeing of the Kathmandu city which includes the famous world heritage sites like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Syambhunath Temple (Monkey Temple). The cultural and historical importance of these sites will certainly make you feel wow and the feeling of good vibes around the Stupa will definitely capture your heart. Later you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Day 03: Gai Tihar and Laxmi Puja Celebration (Tihar Festival 3rd Day) 
The third day of Tihar is known as Gai Tihar and Laxmi Puja. Today our activities of Tihar Festival Tour will be observing the puja offered to cow and goddess Laxmi (goddess of wealth). In morning we will get to know the reverence offered to the cow with garlands and tika. Likewise we will observe the Laxmi puja in the evening where the goddess Laxmi is worshiped believing that she will bestow her devotee with wealth and prosperity. The late night program includes the observation of musical night as many men and women will be seen playing deusi and bhailo. Then you will be brought back to hotel for night stay.

Day 04: Govardan Puja and Mha Puja Celebration (Tihar Festival 4th Day)
Today is the fourth day of Tihar known as Govardhan Puja and Mha Puja. We will observe both Puja which are celebrated by two ethnic group of Nepal. The Govardhan Puja is celebrated by Brahmins and chettris by representing the mountain with the help of cow dung and worshiping it. While at night the Newars celebrates the Mha puja by worshiping themselves. This day also marks as the beginning of Nepal sambat (New Year according to Newari calendar). We can observe the spectacular view of city at night as all the houses are decorated with candles, diyos and light. Later you will be transferred back to the hotel.

Day 05: Bhai Tika (Tihar Festival 5th Day)
The last day of Tihar is very auspicious and is celebrated as Bhai Tika. Bhai Tika is given more importance as it is the festival of brothers and sisters. In this promising occasion the brother put tika and garland on sister forehead and vice versa to ensure long life and prosperity. After tika they offer sweets, dishes to each other and even exchange gifts. This marks as the end of Tihar Festival. We will observe all this religious ritual and get back to hotel for rest.

Day 06: Leisure Day in Kathmandu
On the sixth day of Tihar Festival Tour you will have the leisure day in Kathmandu which you can utilize in purchasing handicrafts or gifts to your friends or you can also have the guided tour if you are interested. At evening you will be joining an authentic Nepali dinner hosted by our company and team for your farewell. Overnight you will stay at hotel.

Day 07: Departure
Your awesome festival tour to Nepal comes to end today. You will be guarded to the airport by one of our representative 3 hours before your flight. We exchange our last good-byes as you leave Nepal with all the wonderful memories you had during your Tihar Festival Tour. We hope you had a lovely time with us.
